New Colors of Grace...

GRACE
God brings new life out of our hard places.
Sight Psalms is a ministry of the General Board of Discipleship of the United Methodist Church.

It is within our rocky places...within those desert times...that God beings the rain of new life and we begin to grow in new and exciting ways.
New color is applied to the landscape of our faith journey...colors that may not be seen until we look within the sands of our faith.

A Gift of Unconditional Love

We have all fallen short of the glory of God...we are all sinful in nature...we, as humanity, have done evil. awful, things in the name of God. We, as humanity, have slapped God in the face and ignored who He would have us be....who He made us to be.

Even though we have don all this, God still pours out His love...His compassion...His grace...from heaven upon us. Even though we have sinned against Him, Shopet (God the Judge) sent His Son, Yeshua (Jesus), to be sin for us...to die in our stead.

Now if that isn't unconditional love for humanity then what is? If that is not an offer for redemption from Go'el (Redeemer, Defender God) then what is? If that is not and offer for new life in Yahweh Ropheka (The Lord who Heals) then what is?

Thank you Yahweh for Your love, mercy, compassion and goodness for/on a sinner like me! Thank you for loving me so! Thank you for the new life you offer! I accept Your gift. Please help me to open it and use it as You would have me...to use the owners manual, Your living Word, to instruct me in how too use it to and for Your Glory!

Prayer for Wisdom (My Payer For the New Year)

1 Kings 3:5-14 Names of God Bible (NOG)

"5 In Gibeon Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. Elohim said, “What can I give you?”
Solomon responded, “You’ve shown great love to my father David, who was your servant. He lived in your presence with truth, righteousness, and commitment. And you continued to show him your great love by giving him a son to sit on his throne today.
Yahweh my Elohim, although I’m young and inexperienced, you’ve made me king in place of my father David. I’m among your people whom you have chosen. They are too numerous to count or record. Give me a heart that listens so that I can judge your people and tell the difference between good and evil. After all, who can judge this great people of yours?”
10 Adonay was pleased that Solomon asked for this. 11 Elohim replied, “You’ve asked for this and not for a long life, or riches for yourself, or the death of your enemies. Instead, you’ve asked for understanding so that you can do what is right. 12 So I’m going to do what you’ve asked. I’m giving you a wise and understanding heart so that there will never be anyone like you. 13 I’m also giving you what you haven’t asked for—riches and honor—so that no other king will be like you as long as you live. 14 And if you follow me and obey my laws and commands as your father David did, then I will also give you a long life.”"

Lord God, you have asked me what gift you might give me..what I would require from you.
I only ask for what Solomon asked when given the same question.
Lord you have been with me through thick and thin, even when I don't feel you there.
Lord you have blessed me beyond measure.
So what do I ask?

You have placed me among Your people to share the Good News of salvation and redemption found through Your Son...our Risen Lord Jesus.
The only thing I ask...the only thing I require is the mantel of Wisdom that You placed upon the shoulders of Solomon.
May that same mantel fall upon me as I lead those whom You would have me lead.

I pray for Your will to be done through me or in spite of me and my frail being.
I pray for wisdom and knowledge as I share Your Word with a hurting world.
I pray for the will to do Your will and not my own.

I don't ask for riches or for fame. Those belong to You and You alone.
I pray for the knowledge to make a difference in the lives of those who I come in contact with each and every day.
I pray for a deeper relationship with you so that I will know Your will.

I don't pray for the destruction of my enemies but for the wisdom to understand them.
I don't pray for a long life but for a life that will run it's course and purpose until they are accomplished an I am called home.

I may be asking for a lot but I know and trust that You will give me what I need. Thank you for the coming wisdom and knowledge. May I quiet myself so that I may listen for Your voice as You guide me...instruct me...on how to wear this mantel for Your glory.

I love You and need You. I want you to be the "star of the show" in my life and faith journey.
Amen...!

Grow Where We Are Planted...

Jeremiah 29:4-7, 11 Names of God Bible (NOG)

"4 This is what Yahweh Tsebaoth, the Elohim of Israel, says to all those who were taken captive from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses, and live in them. Plant gardens, and eat what they produce. Get married, and have sons and daughters. Find wives for your sons, and let your daughters get married so that they can have sons and daughters. Grow in number there; don’t decrease. Work for the good of the city where I’ve taken you as captives, and pray to Yahweh for that city. When it prospers, you will also prosper.
11 I know the plans that I have for you, declares Yahweh. They are plans for peace and not disaster, plans to give you a future filled with hope."

We may not understand the place we are at. We could be there because of what we may have done or because of what someone else has done. We may be in a place of pain and sorrow. We may even be in a place of fear.  But God us with us and wants us to not be "frozen in time." He wants us to grow where we are "planted"

We may not ever see the purpose of the place we are at in our own lifetime. But our actions have an eternal consequence. We never know who will be blessed by our actions in the midst of chaos...even as we walk through our "desert places." It is within these desert times...within our "exile" that we have two choices"

  1. To give up and sit in our "ash heap" wallowing in our situation...
or
    2.  We can grow more into the likeness of Christ, to grow closer to God, to grow into that          beautiful "desert flower" in a desolate land.
Which will we choose? Will we trust Elohim or just sit in sack cloth? It may be "easier said than done" most times, but no matter what we go through in life...our God has a mighty plan for us. Which will you choose this day?

A Quiet Presence

Job 2:12-13 Names of God Bible (NOG)

"12 When they saw him from a distance, they didn’t even recognize him. They cried out loud and wept, and each of them tore his own clothes in grief. They threw dust on their heads.13 Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him because they saw that he was in such great pain."

Sometimes the best help we can give others while they go through their trials in life is no advice at all but to sit with them...empathize with them...in their grief and just be present in the moment with them... to be that quiet presence if hope...presence of love...presence of joy...presence of peace. At time we just need to be that present from Elohim (God) to help them feel His love and hope...compassion and peace...in that moment of silence a midst the chaos of light.

Good, Bad or Indifferent...

Job 2:10 Names of God Bible (NOG)

10 He said to her, “You’re talking like a godless fool. We accept the good that Elohim gives us. Shouldn’t we also accept the bad?”
Through all this Job’s lips did not utter one sinful word.

El, (God),never promised us a bed of rose. What He did promise is:

  1. That He would be El Rio (The God Who Watches Over Me)
  2. That He would be our Maon (Dwelling Place)
  3. To ALWAYS be Yahew Shammah (The Lord Is There)
We need to trust in Him and His promises...then we may find peace in the chaos of the world.

My Driving Force

Jesus is the truth in my life. God's word  influences my choices..it influences how I see and react to others. Both Jesus and the word of God help me center myself and helps me prioritize things in my life...what is important and what is not. But...do I walk the talk...do I live out the words I preach
'.
I have just one life to live..Am I living to please myself or to please God? What is my true ''driving force'' in life? Over the coming weeks I will be reading ''Souvenirs of Solitude'' (Finding rest in Abba's embrace). As I contemplate on these questions I pray to be used by God to speak a word of grace to all who read my ''musings''. What better time to do this then th'e time we prepare our hearts and minds for the child who changed the 'world with His first cry, our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ. May we have an ''Advent"ure of a life time together.

Your Will Be Done

Luke 1:38a Names of God Bible (NOG)

38 Mary answered, “I am the Lord’s servant. Let everything you’ve said happen to me.”

Luke 1:45 Names of God Bible (NOG)

45 You are blessed for believing that the Lord would keep his promise to you.”

It can be so hard sometimes to answer as Mary did. Even though God may have brought us through trials. At times, when you are in the midst of your trial, it is difficult to see God working...the feel His presence with you. It may seem impossible to give Mary's trusting answer.

When we "try, try, again" and we still aren't seeing the answer...the out come...the good in the chaos...that we trial it is hard to keep going sometimes. When we feel that God is not listening it is hard to continue through to the end. We we feel that God has given us too much to bear...it is hard to trust in His goodness.

It is moments like these that we need to draw nearer to God...nearer to His heart. It is from this position that we can see and feel the light of His presence, feel the warmth of His love, feel the strength of "Elohim Migdal-Oz" (God the Strong Tower). It is then when we can call Him "Yaweh Tsur" (The Lord My Rock).

When we have that feeling of safety...that our God is there...we are blessed with peace  for believing the Lord's promises to His children...to be with them ALWAYS...

At times...we as Christians can get a little caught up in our religiosity. We tend to think that it has to be our way...our theology...our denomination...in order to reach God. But how silly is that?! Our God is too big to be pigeonholed into a "denomination". As I have said many times... "There is more than one way to get to Walmart...it doesn't matter how you get there...the only thing that really matters is the destination...God." Perhaps we need to rethink how we approach each other. Maybe if we look more at the similarities and less at the differences we can learn to get along. Maybe then we will decide to give peace a chance. Maybe...just maybe...

Do Not be afraid...God is with you...

Ezra 3:3 GWT - "So they rebuilt the altar on its original site, though they were afraid of the people in the neighboring regions. They sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the Lord every morning and evening."

Even though the people were afraid of the the countries around them, Jeshua and the priest rebuilt the altar of the Lord just as Moses had instructed it to be built. They knew that they had a strong God. They wanted to pay honor to God with their burnt offerings both night and day.

We too may be afraid of the people around us. What will they say if they see me being Christian? What will they do when they see I love Jesus and God? We should not be afraid of the "countries" around us. We have a strong God who watches over us...His faithful servants. You never know whose life might be changed because we trust and showed our true self...our Christian selves in a world of muck and mire?

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made!

Sometimes, we as humanity, try to find our significance in those around us or in our jobs. We keep trying to fill that void of self-worth with the things of earth. When we do this...we will always fall short in finding it. The world in which we live can be cruel and heartless. We look for that love in all the wrong places and go about with this hole in our souls that we are trying to fill.

There is only one way to fill that void...our God is the One who we can rely on to fill it. We are unconditionally loved...accepted...and forgiven by Him. We need to find our significance in God through Christ Jesus. Then and only then can we be made whole...

Some days it is just so hard to go on. You are tired...drained..life has just gotten you down.  You may not be able to see the end of an endles season in your life. But this is not a time to give up. Even though it may be hard, don't be discouraged. Don't loose heart.

This is a time when we need to draw closer to God. This is a time that we need to trust more in God. This is a time when perserverence pays off. We will and can see this season through and emerge stronger than we were. We can do this through the strength that God gives us. And one of the best things is that Gods mercy and strength is new each day.

How awesome is that...being renewed each new day. There are still things you have been called to do...don't give up until you reach the prize... We can do ALL things through Christ. who strengthens us.

How strange it is that most of the times when we do something that blesses others...we too are blessed...sometimes even more than the person we are blessing. God tells us that we are blessed to be a blessing to others. How awesome it is to share the wonderful things that God has given me. I decided long ago that everything I have is not mine but God is having me take care of it for Him until He decides who He wants us to give it to. I find myself blessed beyond measure as I share God's treasurers with others...

As we follow God's path in our lives and let God use us as He will...we are swept up in the flow of His love for us. As are filled with living water that flows from Calvary we over flow onto the lives around us, touching others with the wave of grace that is offered by God.

Living here in Maine has given me a new perspective of God's majesty on nature. You can't help but see beauty no matter where you look. The various colors that is seen as well as different shade of these same colors come into play. It all works together to create a thing of beauty.

Thinking of the different colors in nature has also given me a new perspective on humanity. God has created humanity so diverse. It has it's beauty in that it...we the creation...is all different. It brings about a beautiful symphony of life songs.

We, as humanity, need to stop trying to make our song louder than the next person. As we listen and play our part, we become the master piece that God had intended in the first place.

We live in a world that really needs love. With all the bad that is going on, there is need for hope. Through loving others we can bring that hope to a hurting world.

It is not an easy task. There are people around us that act...well...unlovable. They seem to not want the love that we may extend to them. Don't give up on loving them. You never know if someday they may accept that love. When that happens, we can change a life...we can change our world...

Let your love shine like the noon day sun!

BALANCE

Time apart, in silence, leads us toward the balance for which we hunger.

Sight Psalms is a ministry of the General Board of Discipleship of the United Methodist Church.

Being a pastor, student, wife, mom, friend, counselor, Soccer Mom..., it is hard some days to find balance. The days I find hardest are the days when I don't begin my day in silence with the Lord. I may wake and think I have too much to do right now or I'll spend time later with God...(which by the way, rarely happens. Your too busy doing other stuff...) It is in the silence of the morning I find peace. It is in the dawning of a new day that I find that "joy that comes in the morning." It is in that silence that I joyfully bow my head and heart in awe and adoration for the One who gives me life...the One who is like no other...my God and my King. Now that's a way to find balance...

There are days that the road seems so long and so heavy. It may even make you feel you cannot stand up under it's weight. Praise God that we have a God that wants us to come to Him with our burdens so that He may lighten the load of us.

Thank you God for always being there ready to help me with my load. There is no load to heavy for you to bare. Thank you for your loving kindness to me...Your beloved child. Amen!

I'll be there...

The Potter's Hands

God's hands are always molding...shaping...reshaping...our situations as well as God's people giving new hope...new vision...hope for a brighter future. God never gives up on reshaping us but we may give up on letting Him.

Clay...even when it is miss-formed...is still clay that is able to be reshaped...remolded.

God uses us as we come be for God...with a repentant heart...as miss-formed clay because of our sins...and reforms us...remolds us... into vessels that God uses for His glory...

How Awesome is that?!

God is still God...no matter what we see...

It can be depressing as you look at the state of the world today. All the crime and death can really cause your vision to be blurred. Is the world really winning out over God?

God is still in the world and still just as active as God was in the beginning. God has you and me in God's hand...God will NEVER let us go. God can change troubles into victories, despair into hope, mourning into dancing...

If we look deep enough...beyond the surface...beyond what we see..we can still see God at work. The choice is ours to make...will we look for the positive in a situation of will we settle on what is right before us. One choice leads to life abundant and the other leads to a life that is dead.

Which will you choose?

Paul's Thorn

There are days that I can really relate to Paul and the "thorn in his side". I just want God to take it away but...it doesn't seem to happen.

The way I see it, because of that thorn I have to rely on God and God's grace for me. This so called thorn is there to teach me that it is not by my own strength I exist but by God's will and strength. I can do all things through Christ, with or without the thorn. But sometimes I need that thorn to remind me...

Sound familiar...?

A Long and Winding Road

WINDING
The journey of a stream is seldom a straight line, likewise our journey of faith.

Faith is like a stream ever flowing down stream, never stagnant. Our faith journey mothers and fathers stood upstream from us and their faith trickled down stream to us. We too are upstream for those yet to come. May our faith journey's lead the way to new horizons for those who are waiting downstream.

Less talk...more action

1 Samuel 2:3

Have you ever run into someone that all they do is talk...talk...talk...? Especially those who talk about all that they have "done for the Lord." They seem to be wanting a "pat on the back" from all those they encounter. Now I'm not syaing that it is wrong to talk about how God has used you to help others or what God has done in your life...that's witnessing to the glory of God and God's loving power...but there is a point when it may actually turm people off. I am not trying to judge anyone...only God can do that, God knows there heart, but I think we need to be known by our actions not by what we "say" we do...

The past is the past...God has made a wonderful future

Luke 4:18-19

We may have made mistakes in the past...some may be big and some may be small..or we may have a very "dark" past. It may be hard to leave the past where it belongs, in the past, because it may always seem to "rear it's ugly head." But jesus came to free us from our past...to usher in a new and glorious life. When the past seems to keep coming back...bring it to the Lord in prayer knowing that He is able to help you put it back where it belongs...in the past. He can help you to keep your eyes focused on the future instead of lamenting the past regrets....

Where is your place?

I love the mane times that Jesus put people in their place. It didn't matter where he was...if He  saw injustice He would speak up. I think that many people would have a lot to learn from the scripture from Luke found in Chapter 14 verses 7-11.  It reads:

The Message (MSG)

Invite the Misfits

7-9 He went on to tell a story to the guests around the table. Noticing how each had tried to elbow into the place of honor, he said, “When someone invites you to dinner, don’t take the place of honor. Somebody more important than you might have been invited by the host. Then he’ll come and call out in front of everybody, ‘You’re in the wrong place. The place of honor belongs to this man.’ Red-faced, you’ll have to make your way to the very last table, the only place left.
10-11 “When you’re invited to dinner, go and sit at the last place. Then when the host comes he may very well say, ‘Friend, come up to the front.’ That will give the dinner guests something to talk about! What I’m saying is, If you walk around with your nose in the air, you’re going to end up flat on your face. But if you’re content to be simply yourself, you will become more than yourself.”

Jesus really told them like it is. i can only imagine going to a party and n the seat of honor only to have someone come and tell me to move because that seat was not for me. But isn't that what society would have us believe...that we have to have the best seats...the best toys...the best of everything otherwise our life is in vain...? Maybe...just maybe...this is the reason why our priorities are all messed up. We, as humanity, need to reassess our values systems. Perhaps when we do, it will change the world. One changed attitude at a time...

Light In Our Darkness

We may at times may find ourselves in the darkest of darkness in our life. We may feel alone and afraid.  It is these dark, desolate places that we need hope the most. You may feel hopeless and helpless. You may also feel that you just can't go on one more day. Forsaken and abandoned we lie bare on the floor...at out wits end. It is in these places...at this time in our life journey...we need to find that light...that hope...that reason to go on.

There is only one person that can help you through this time...only one person who can light the path out...only one person who can fill that emptiness. This one person has been where you are...who has felt your pain...knows where you are coming from. That one person is our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the way, the truth, the life and the light. He is always there...ready to take hold of your hand and help you back up to your feet and lead the way out. Jesus is that bright shining star that gives light for your faith journey. Jesus ill and is making a way through those dark, lifeless places so that you can emerge from better and stronger tan you were when you first entered.

Thank You JESUS!

(Psalm 138:7-10 NIV, Zephaniah 3:17 NIV)

Twinkle, twinkle little star...

As I look into the night sky here in Patten, ME I am so amazed and awestruck. To see so many stars is breath taking. To think that the creator of his beautiful night show cares so much about me that He sent His only Son to die in my stead. It is incomprehensible.

Jesus is the bright morning star that lights the world. We too are stars that reflect His light off of us. As we follow in the Masters foot steps, we become that twinkling star that others can reach out and touch. We become that "mirror image" of Christ that shines bright in a dark, hurting world.

Shine on for Jesus. Dance the twinkling dance with our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ.

Rising Aroma

The Aroma...the smell of God...rises as we witness to Gods love. We are used by God leaving His fragrance...His likeness...in a hurting world. The smell of God is left behind in our word, in our deeds, in our presence to those around us. We become the aroma of Christ as we dtrive to become more like Him each day. As we follow in Jesus' foot steps others will see and smell the essance of Christ and want that same smell in and on their own life.

Illuminary Path

  1. God lights the path of those who came before us
  2. As we follow in their foot steps...on their path...God lights our own path
  3. Others will come along and follow our path and aas they follow...God will light their path too...
  • past = the light so far
  • present = we pick up the path where others roamed and bring it further
  • future = others will pick up our lighted paths and take them further.

As we travel through our days, we need to keep ourselves open for God to enter in and use us in the lives of those around us. By closing ourselves off, not only do others miss out on the blessing planned through us but we miss out the blessing we receive by just knowing them.
